Croatian-Polish business forum held in Zagreb

ZAGREB, Feb 16 (Hina) - A Croatian-Polish business forum, organised by the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) in Zagreb on Wednesday, pointed to many possibilities of economic cooperation between the two European countries.

HGK President Nadan Vidosevic said that Croatia controls seven percent of the Mediterranean coast, has five international ports and a developed infrastructure, and lies along the shortest maritime corridor from Europe to the Suez.

These advantages can be beneficial to Polish business people, he said.

Croatian Economy Minister Djuro Popijac said that his country needed industrial investments and called on Polish business people to invest in Croatia.

He informed the Polish guests of a catalogue with descriptions of major public sector investment projects recently published by the government.

Polish Economy Minister Waldemar Pawlak said that the transport corridor from the Baltic to the Adriatic was becoming increasingly interesting to Polish economists and business people after the focus had been placed for years on the transversal line from the west to the east.

Polish Environmental Protection Minister Andrzej Kraszewski mentioned ecological production as a field for bilateral cooperation.

After the forum, individual meetings of business people from the two countries were held.

According to the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, the Croatia-Poland trade in 2010 totalled USD 522.5 million, going down by 3.2 percent from 2009. Croatia's exports to Poland increased 4.7 percent to USD 119 million, and Polish exports to Croatia were reduced by 5.3 percent on the year to USD 403.5 million in 2010.
