BELGRADE, June 11 (Hina) - Branislav Medic, a former member of the Scorpions unit which was involved in the Srebrenica massacre, was arrested on Friday, Belgrade District Court spokeswoman Ivana Ramic told Beta news agency on Saturday.

Medic is the fifth suspect in the case of ill-treatment and murder of six males from Srebrenica, four of whom were under age, near the village of Trnovo in July 1995. He was identified on the basis of a video tape that was recently shown at the trial of former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic before the Hague war crimes tribunal.

Unit commander Slobodan Medic and its members Aleksandar Medic, Pero Petrasevic and Aleksandar Vukov are already in the custody of the Belgrade District Court on suspicion of involvement in the war crime. Police are still looking for Milorad Momic and Slobodan Pavlovic.

The Scorpions unit was formed at the start of the war in Croatia by the National Security Service of the Ministry of the Interior of Serbia, and it also fought in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Former National Security Service chiefs Jovica Stanisic and Franko Simatovic, who have both been indicted by the Hague tribunal, are cited as its founders.

The Interior Ministry's Department for the Fight against Organised Crime has recently confirmed that the unit was formally attached to the Ministry in 1999 during the armed conflict in Kosovo.
