BELGRADE, May 12 (Hina) - The United States is not confident that the current political atmosphere in Serbia is suitable for unbiased war crimes trials which the UN war crimes tribunal form The Hague could refer to Serbia's judiciary, an officials from the US embassy in Belgrade, Roderick Moore said, in Thursday.

The Serbian society has not yet faced the scope of the crimes committed and indictees are still treated as heroes and patriots, Moore said at a round table debate on war crimes trials in .Belgrade.

An advisor to the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia's Chief Prosecutor, Anton Nikiforov, said the tribunal was ready to refer ten indictments to former Yugoslav countries. He said Serbia made great progress in the past two years adding, however, that the problem was that the society denied the scope of the crimes committed.

The debate was organised by the Belgrade Law School, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe Mission in Serbia and Montenegro and the US Embassy.
