LJUBLJANA, May 27 (Hina) - Slovene Prime Minister Janez Jansa said on Thursday evening that a ferry from the Slovene town of Hotiza that had been docked at Sveti Martin na Muri, in Croatia, since May 5, had been returned to its owners and that its repossession had helped avoid a conflict with Croatia.

"Repossession of the ferry has removed the reason for a conflict with the neighbouring country," Jansa said after a meeting of parties making up his coalition government, which focused on the first six months of the government's term.

The Slovene media in recent weeks focused on complications with the ferry, which some nationalist circles in Slovenia declared a "symbol of the Slovene people" and a reason for possible deterioration of relations with Croatia. A representative of the opposition Liberals in the European Parliament, Jelko Kacin, threatened to internationalise the case.

The ferry, which navigated on the Mura River between Hotiza in Slovenia and Sveti Martin na Muri in Croatia, had to be docked at Sveti Martin na Muri because it was in poor repair and lacked a valid navigation permit. In the meantime, the ferry has been replaced with a new one.
