Croats to elect local councils on Sunday

ZAGREB, May 13 (Hina) - Croatian voters go to the polls on Sunday, May15, to choose representatives to local councils and the Zagreb CityAssembly.
ZAGREB, May 13 (Hina) - Croatian voters go to the polls on Sunday, May 15, to choose representatives to local councils and the Zagreb City Assembly.

Citizens will elect 5,392 representatives to 426 municipal councils, 2,062 representatives to 123 town councils, 872 members of 20 county assemblies and 51 members of the Zagreb City Assembly.

Slightly over four million citizens are entitled to vote.

More than 3,000 Serb refugees holding Croatian ID cards will arrive from Serbia to cast their ballots on Sunday.

All parties, coalitions and independent candidates running in the elections are required to win a minimum of five per cent of the vote in order to enter a local legislature.

Members of local legislatures are elected to a term of four years.

Election results will be announced by municipal, town and county election commissions.

Polling stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

An electioneering ban will enter into force at midnight on Friday and will last until the closure of polling stations.
