MOSTAR, April 30 (Hina) - Criminal groups in Bosnia-Herzegovina involved in the trafficking of humans, notably women, are stronger than the authorities in some segments, Fadila Hadzic of La Strada, an international organisation combating human trafficking, said in Mostar on Saturday.

Hadzic, La Strada's coordinator for Bosnia, was speaking at a panel discussion on the contribution of nongovernmental organisations to the fight against human trafficking.

Hadzic maintains that Bosnia's authorities fail to sufficiently heed NGO warnings about the extent of human trafficking.

She said that in the past, girls from Central and Southeast Europe used to be smuggled in Bosnia for prostitution, but that recently trafficking in local girls was one the rise, including underage girls.

Hadzic said that despite the worrying extent of trafficking in women only two persons had been sentenced in Bosnia to date for involvement in a women smuggling ring.
