This is the second year that the institute, founded 55 years ago, has organised the "Open Days" event, inviting all interested citizens to visit.
Institute director Mladen Zinic said he hoped a visit to the institute would arouse the interest of young people in science and scientific research, which he said would contribute to one of Croatia's strategic goals - the establishment of a society based on science.
From 9 am to 4 pm on Thursday and Friday and from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday, organised groups of visitors and other citizens will be able to visit 18 laboratories and departments where scientists will inform them of their current work.
Around 500 scientists working at the institute are currently involved in projects from the areas of experimental and theoretical physics and chemistry, molecular biology and medicine, ecology, sea research and computing.
Scientific work is organised in more than 120 basic and collaboration projects that are financed by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, and 59 international scientific projects, including ten that are financed by the European Union. Also under way are 12 application-oriented technology projects and more than 130 projects in cooperation with the domestic economic sector.
