DUBROVNIK, April 21 (Hina) - A two-day meeting of chiefs-of-staff of the armed forces of Austria, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Croatia began in the Croatian coastal resort of Dubrovnik on Thursday morning.

The aim of this group called Central European Nations Cooperation in Peace Support (CENCOOP) is to become a factor in establishing regional relations and exchanging opinions on security matters as well as in consultations with the European Union and NATO at the regional level.

The meeting, which is being held behind closed doors, was opened by the Croatian Armed Forces chief-of-staff, General Josip Lucic, who spoke about regional security and prospects of participation in Peace Support Operations.

Preparing this topic, a Croatian Armed Forces delegation held bilateral talks with CENCOOP member-states so as to be better acquainted with possibilities of further cooperation in this field, Lucic wrote in the material for this meeting which was distributed to reporters before the start of the session.

Croatian President Stjepan Mesic was to attend the opening ceremony on Thursday morning, but was prevented after his flight from Zagreb to Dubrovnik was cancelled due to bad weather.
