ZAGREB, April 14 (Hina) - The president of the Serb People's Party (SNS), Milan Djukic, said on Thursday that changes to the Law on Local Self-Government Units were discriminating against Serb citizens because the amendments granted the right to vote to citizens who had permanent residence in Croatia and were entered in voters' registers.

"This is yet another type of discrimination in the basic civil right to elect and be elected," Djukic said.

He added that he did not expect much of the upcoming local elections because "the right wing will fare better than in the last local elections, and the divided opposition is not expected to achieve significant results". The SNS expects early parliamentary elections very soon, he added.

"This government is not being credible in regulating the status of Serbs in Croatia, which is reflected in the lack of political will to solve that issue," Djukic said.

Commenting on the recent establishment of a Serb minority coordinating body and the election of Milorad Pupovac its president, Djukic said that nobody had authorised Pupovac or the coordinating body to adopt a Serb minority flag and other symbols of this ethnic group.
