SUBOTICA, April 5 (Hina) - The Serbian authorities and the Serb
Orthodox Church have reacted appropriately to the news of Pope John Paul II's
death, the president of the Saints Cyril and Methodius Bishops' Conference and
archbishop of Belgrade, Stanislav Hocevar, said in a radio programme in
Subotica, in the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina, on Tuesday.
"We have received and are still receiving numerous messages of condolence from
the faithful as well as the state bodies of Serbia, the Serb Orthodox Church,
various NGOs and organisations," Hocevar said, adding that the public
perception of the Pope's work in Serbia was now mostly positive.
Hocevar said that he had received unofficial reports that some circles
in Serbia regretted that the Pope had not visited Serbia and Montenegro.
