ZAGREB, March 29 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Tuesday issued a press release commenting on the decision of the international High Representative to Bosnia-Herzegovina to dismiss Bosnian Croat Dragan Covic from Bosnia-Herzegovina's three-man Presidency.

According to the press release, the Ivo Sanader cabinet expresses conviction that "the legal proceedings will offer objective answers to questions and doubts in relation to the said decision of the High Representative".

The British diplomat Ashdown on Tuesday relieved Covic of duty after the Court of Bosnia-Herzegovina recently issued an indictment against him on suspicion of his involvement in white-collar crime and bribery and after Covic refused to step down on his own accord.

The press release issued in Zagreb reads that "as (Bosnia's) neighbour and a signatory to the Dayton agreement, as well as a country which is bound by its Constitution to care for Croats outside its borders, the Republic of Croatia supports measures and decisions made by the international community with the aim of strengthening the independence and self-sufficiency of Bosnia-Herzegovina and preserving the equality of all the three constituent peoples".

In line with that and in the context of Ashdown's decision, the Croatian government expresses conviction that court proceedings will provide objective answers to questions and doubts surrounding the High Representative's decision.

The Sanader cabinet says it does not interfere in the internal affairs of Bosnia-Herzegovina, but it expresses concern over a conspicuous tendency towards the dismissal of democratically elected representatives from the ranks of the Croatian people, including its members in the Bosnian Presidency.

Zagreb assesses that this "can produce serious consequences for the political status and position of Croats, which is an equal and constituent people in Bosnia-Herzegovina".

The Croatian government says that it is developing "good and friendly relations" with independent and neighbourly Bosnia-Herzegovina and is enhancing them on the path towards a "common European future".
