LJUBLJANA, March 24 (Hina) - The ad hoc group that will be evaluating Croatia's cooperation with the Hague war crimes tribunal will hold its first meeting on April 26, Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn said at a press conference in Ljubljana on Thursday.

Asselborn, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, and Slovene Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel met to discuss the EU enlargement process, particularly the start of membership talks with Croatia.

The ad hoc group for Croatia consists of Asselborn, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik, EU Foreign Policy and Security Commissioner Javier Solana and EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn.

The group will also hold talks with representatives of the Croatian government and the Hague tribunal.

After the meeting on April 26 we will see what we will do next. We will do all we can to enable a positive outcome for Croatia, possibly before the end of June, Asselborn said.

Asselborn reiterated that the door to the European Union remained open to Croatia, but noted that Croatia held a key to the negotiations with the European Union in its hands. Croatia must make an effort and I am confident that it will, he added.

Asked who would decide on whether Croatia was cooperating fully or not, Asselborn said that it would be the General Affairs and External Relations Council (GAERC), and added that conclusions on the group's work should not be made in a rush.

If the Croatian government steps up its efforts to meet the requirement for full cooperation with the Hague tribunal, it will be possible to find a solution to the talks during Luxembourg's EU presidency, Asselborn said.
