POZEGA, March 19 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said in Pozega on Saturday Croatia deserved the opening of European Union entry negotiations and that this would happen "one way or another, i.e. if not on the formal then on an informal level".

"Reports are changing by the day and nothing should be taken for granted. Croatia is moving on because it did and is doing everything to close the remaining (outstanding) issue," he said alluding to full cooperation with the Hague war crimes tribunal.

Sanader was commenting on indications that the issue of launching Croatia's entry negotiations would not be discussed at a European summit next week even though this was requested by four EU members.

Sanader believes there is no reason to block Croatia in the EU integration process.

"If this policy towards Southeast Europe were to be formalised, then it would play in the hands of those who are against European unification," he said, adding the international community had its rules of the game which Croatia must abide by.

Sanader visited Pozega to attend the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the county branch of his ruling Croatian Democratic Union party.
