BRUSSELS, March 14 (Hina) - Freezing the assets of runaway Ante
Gotovina, the Croatian general wanted by the Hague war crimes tribunal, is an
important step in Croatia's cooperation with the UN court but the cooperation
must be complete, the AFP agency said on Monday citing a source close to the
European Union presidency. Croatia's chief state prosecutor, Mladen
Bajic, said earlier today that Gotovina's assets had been frozen.
The aforementioned source said this was a step in the right direction
but added that cooperation with the Hague tribunal must be complete, alluding
to the extradition of Gotovina.
The source said Brussels was aware of the legal difficulties in
connection with the freezing of Gotovina's accounts.
Another EU source said Croatia had taken an important step but that it
was not enough.
In two days, the EU foreign ministers will decide if Croatia's EU entry
talks will be launched on March 17.
