BELGRADE, March 18 (Hina) - The European Union has requested the
authorities of Serbia and the state union of Serbia and Montenegro to freeze
the assets of Hague war crimes tribunal indictees Ratko Mladic and Radovan
Karadzic, the president of the national council for cooperation with the UN
court, Rasim Ljajic, has said. In an interview with Blic daily of
Friday, he said the national council would decide about the EU request on
Monday.
Ljajic once again called on the indicted generals Nebojsa Pavkovic and
Sreten Lukic to surrender to the Hague tribunal, adding that without their
surrender Serbia and Montenegro would not obtain a positive EU opinion of its
ability to start negotiations on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement.
The assets of other fugitive Hague tribunal indictees will also be
frozen, Serbian Justice Minister Zoran Stojkovic told Beta news agency today,
adding they would not be able to sell their assets or withdraw money from
banks.
