Croatia hails the report on reforming the UN system, Kosor said and added that all reform measures must be carefully examined in order to strengthen the role of the Human Rights Commission as the main UN body for the protection and promotion of human rights, the statement said.
Kosor informed those present of an announced visit to Croatia by the UN Secretary General's representative on internally displaced persons, Walter Kalin. Croatian officials said the issue of refugees and displaced people was high on the agenda of the Croatian Government, the statement said.
Kosor thanked UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour for the support of her office to the establishment of a human rights centre in Croatia, which should become an independent institution next year.
She also informed those present of the Croatian government's achievements in the protection of human rights. She said Croatia had established offices of ombudspersons for children and for gender equality. She said that an ombudsperson for disabled people would be appointed in the near future.
