ZAGREB, March 15 (Hina) - The chief prosecutor of the Hague war crimes tribunal, Carla Del Ponte, on Tuesday informed Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn that Croatia was still not fully cooperating with the tribunal, spokespersons for Del Ponte and Asselborn told Hina.

Del Ponte held an unannounced meeting with Asselborn in The Hague ahead of the EU's decision on whether Croatia's EU entry talks will start on March 17 or not.

"There are no changes in our assessment of the cooperation. The Croatian authorities have not demonstrated the will to arrest General Ante Gotovina," Del Ponte's spokeswoman Florence Hartmann said.

Asselborn's spokesman Eldar Subasic confirmed in a phone interview from The Hague that there were no new elements in Del Ponte's assessment of Croatia's cooperation.

Subasic said that he could not speak about the content of the talks and added that Asselborn was leaving The Hague for Brussels.

The EU's Luxembourg presidency will prepare draft decisions on Croatia for today's meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER), which consists of ambassadors from EU members and which prepares meetings of the Council of Ministers. The EU foreign ministers will make the final decision on the draft decisions.

Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader arrived in Brussels today. The EU foreign ministers from the European People's Party (EPP), the umbrella organisation of European popular and Christian Democrat parties, will meet in Brussels this evening. The meeting, which will also be attended by Croatia's Foreign and European Integration Minister Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic, is the last opportunity to try and lobby for the opening of Croatia's EU entry talks on March 17.

At last week's meeting of the COREPER, the ambassadors failed to reach agreement on whether Croatia had met all conditions for the start of the talks. Most COREPER members were against starting the talks on March 17 if Croatia's cooperation with the Hague tribunal remained at the current level.

Luxembourg's Prime Minister and EU President Jean Claude-Juncker said on Monday that Croatia's accession talks would not start on Thursday if the runaway general Ante Gotovina was not transferred to The Hague.
