ZAGREB, March 14 (Hina) - Chief State Prosecutor Mladen Bajic has said that the assets of the runaway general Ante Gotovina, who is wanted by the UN war crimes tribunal, have been blocked and the order on the blockade is going to be entered into land registers in the coming days.

"The assets of the indictee Ante Gotovina are frozen. The order on freezing his assets is being entered into land registers of competent courts," Bajic said on Monday after Croatia and Great Britain signed in Zagreb a memorandum of cooperation in the Police in the Community project.

Bajic reiterated that the Office of the Croatian Chief State Prosecutor had notified the Hague-based tribunal's prosecution of all steps Croatia had taken to locate the runaway general and reveal persons who helped him in his escape.

He described the results as "more than good".

"We have informed (the tribunal) not only of what we have done so as to arrest him but also of measures taken to freeze his assets and what we are planning to do in connection with his aides," Bajic said adding that the tribunal's chief prosecutor, Carla del Ponte, voiced satisfaction with everything Croatia had been doing over recent months.

Bajic declined to say what kind of assets had been frozen.

British Ambassador to Croatia, Sir John Ramsden, who together with two Croatian ministers, signed the said memorandum, reiterated that before the start of accession negotiations with the European Union, Croatia must fulfil the requirement of cooperation wit the Hague-based ICTY.

"As soon as this condition is met, the negotiations will start, and Croatia will be welcome to the EU," the diplomat said.

Croatian Interior Minister Marijan Mlinaric said Croatia was doing its utmost to locate and arrest the runaway general.
