Sabor appoints National Committee to monitor Croatia's EU membership talks

ZAGREB, March 9 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Wednesday appointedthe National Committee for the Supervision of Croatia's MembershipTalks with the European Union. The committee's chairman will be IvicaRacan of the strongest opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) andvice-chairman Luka Bebic of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union(HDZ).
ZAGREB, March 9 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Wednesday appointed the National Committee for the Supervision of Croatia's Membership Talks with the European Union. The committee's chairman will be Ivica Racan of the strongest opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) and vice-chairman Luka Bebic of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).

The representatives of the parliamentary majority on the committee are Bebic, Nevenka Majdenic, Mario Zubovic, Emil Tomljanovic, Ivan Cehok and Vladimir Jordan.

The parliamentary opposition is represented by Racan, Vesna Pusic, Ljubo Jurcic, Anto Djapic, Zlatko Tomcic and Ivan Jakovcic.

The representatives of the employers and trade unions are Darko Marinac and Vesna Dejanovic respectively. The tertiary education institutions will be represented by the head of the Zagreb University, Helena Jasna Mencer, and the representative of the Office of Croatian President will be Davor Bozinovic.

According to their posts, the chairmen of the parliamentary foreign affairs, European integration and inter-parliamentary cooperation committees, Gordan Jandrokovic, Neven Mimica and Milorad Pupovac respectively will be on the committee, too.

The committee is due to hold its first session on Thursday to consider Croatia's general standpoints, a document which Zagreb is going to present at an intergovernmental conference on 17 March.

At the start of its 13th session on Wednesday morning, members of Sabor extended condolences to Sabor President Vladimir Seks on the death of his 25-year-old son Domagoj in India.
