ZAGREB, March 8 (Hina) - The Croatian Women's Network that gathers 45 nongovernmental organisations on Tuesday held a peaceful protest rally in St. Mark's Square in front of the Croatian government's building in Zagreb to mark International Women's Day.

The protestors expressed dissatisfaction with the work of the government and some ministries with regard to the implementation of the national policy for the promotion of gender equality.

They also insisted that at the forthcoming local elections women should make up at least 40 percent of parties' slates.

Deputy Prime Minister and Family Affairs Minister Jadranka Kosor first received a few representatives of the Women's Network who informed her of their demands. After the protesters in front of the building started booing, insisting that Kosor address them, Kosor came out and addressed the rally.

The minister said that women, who account for 52 percent of Croatia's population, could do much more through a concerted effort. She said she also advocated that more women be represented at posts where there was power and money.

The protesters asked Kosor to inform her male colleagues of their requests.

The rally in Zagreb was supported by some leading women politicians.
