The Sanader-Rehn meeting was unannounced and the press was not informed about it.
"They talked about preparations for the start of negotiations with Croatia and cooperation with the Hague tribunal," spokeswoman Nagy said and added that PM Sanader informed Rehn of the efforts Croatia was making so as to establish full cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).
The Croatian Government issued a statement after its session according to which Rehn said Croatia must do everything to resolve the issue of fugitive General Ante Gotovina.
Spokeswoman Nagy said the European Commission expected the ICTY Prosecutor's Office and other sources to submit a new report on Croatia's cooperation with the tribunal in early March.
Asked whether negotiations with Croatia could start without Gotovina's transfer to the Hague, Nagy reiterated the latest conclusions of the Council of Ministers who called on Croatia to take the necessary steps to locate the last indictee and transfer him to The Hague as soon as possible.
