ZAGREB, Jan 31 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said on
Monday the statement by European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn that the
European Commission would not be able at the moment to recommend the opening of
accession talks with Zagreb, was expected, the head of Mesic's public
relations office, Danijela Barisic, said."It was clear from the beginning that the start of negotiations was
connected with the resolution of the Gotovina case. Mr Rehn's statement shows
that nothing has changed regarding that issue and it was illusionary to expect
otherwise," Barisic cited the president as saying.
Commissioner Rehn said in Brussels on Monday that the European
Commission would not be able at the moment to recommend the opening of
accession talks with Zagreb, scheduled for 17 March.
