Tadic is one of the officials who arrived in Zagreb on Friday to attend the inauguration of President Stjepan Mesic for his second term in office.
"Relations between our two countries are of fundamental importance for the future of the region. Just as Serbian-Croatian relations were a condition for the stability of the former Yugoslavia now they are a condition for the stability of the entire region," Tadic said,
He stressed that he would "set aside some difficulties we had in the past" and "try to see what direction could economic and technological cooperation take, so as to find joint markets and develop joint production programmes".
Stressing that he was the ambassador of Serbia's economy in the world, Tadic said he saw "great potential in the joint presentation of Croatia and Serbia on foreign markets, because as individual countries we are a small market, our technologies are not powerful enough to compete with other economies and our economies complement one another".
Answering a reporter's question what could be done to solve some outstanding bilateral issues, such as the demarkation line on the Danube River, Tadic said: "This is a technical question now. I will support all efforts to accelerate this process and any obstacle preventing strong economic cooperation must be avoided".
Commenting on the referral of the trial of the Vukovar Three to national courts, Tadic said he advocated that the trial be referred to a Belgrade court.
That would be good for our stability and for the trust and normalisation od our relations, the Serbian president said.
Answering a reporter's question, Tadic said he was ready to officially visit Croatia as early as tomorrow. Reporters were also interested in the issue of Kosovo in light of Tadic's recent visit to the UN-administered province.
The solving of this issue has begun, Tadic said.
"The situation (in Kosovo) is very delicate, but I am optimistic about it and I believe that things could be solved in spite of difficult circumstances," Tadic said.
