Lucic sent an open letter to Mehun on Wednesday calling on him to corroborate his claims that some media were publishing lies without any evidence and to send the evidence to the HND Court of Honor for consideration.
Mehun wrote to Lucic on Tuesday requesting that the HND Court of Honour discuss "the publication of lies without concrete evidence in articles in the Globus weekly and the Jutarnji List daily referring to accusations that senior police officials are financing the escape of general Ante Gotovina."
Lucic recommended that Mehun refer the case with concrete evidence to the HND Court of Honour as the only body authorised to settle issues of this kind.
"There is a clear line between the executive and judicial bodies of the HND, which would also be good for the entire state," Lucic said in his letter, adding that he as the president of the HND would not interfere in the work of the HND Court of Honour.
Mehun said yesterday that by publishing "the insane fabrication by secret services of some European countries" that senior police officials had financed the escape of Ante Gotovina, Globus reporters and editors did not only publish the meanest lie but they also inflicted immeasurable damage on the Interior Ministry and its officials. He went on to say that they had published the report without checking any allegations which he said was one of the fundamental tenets of an objective and fair journalistic approach.
