ZAGREB, Feb 8 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament's Home Affairs and National Security Committee meets on Wednesday to discuss allegations that the Counterintelligence Agency (POA) had monitored journalists in 2003 and 2004.

Five journalists turned to relevant authorities and the Croatian Journalists' Association demanding a thorough investigation and sanctions against those responsible.

Their request followed an article in the Globus weekly saying that the POA had placed them under surveillance in 2003 and 2004 on the suspicion that they were involved in a media and intelligence campaign against Croatia. The director of the POA at the time was Franjo Turek.

Committee members Sime Lucin of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Pero Kovacevic of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) have requested that the Committee discuss the media reports on the issue. The five journalists submitted a petition to the Committee on Monday.

Kovacevic told reporters in the Parliament building on Tuesday that his party would request that the Council for the Civilian Supervision of Security Services and three members of the Home Affairs and National Security Committee carry out an inspection in the POA in order to shed light on the case.
