Lagumdzija won 264 votes of deputies at the convention, while his rivals Ljubisa Markovic and Nermin Pecanac gained 92 and 66 votes respectively.
Lagumdzija, thus, remained at the helm of the opposition party, despite criticism of some participants in the congress, including Markovic and Pecanac, who said that the SDP had been in a crisis since 2002 when it fell from power.
Markovic said that since then the party fell from favour of nearly 150,000 its potential voters, and Pecanac spoke about apathy among SDP members.
Addressing the congress, Lagumdzija spoke about the party's plans for the next period.
Commenting on the current situation in the country and abroad, the re-elected SDP chief pointed the finger at the international community's High Representative to Bosnia, Paddy Ashdown, accusing him of forming harmful alliances with nationalistic parties in the country, all of which slowed down reforms and Bosnia's progress towards Euro-Atlantic institutions, Lagumdzija said.
