MOSTAR, Jan 14 (Hina) - Bosnia's Social Democratic Party (SDP BiH) has set up a special election committee to monitor the second round of Croatia's presidential elections at polling stations in Bosnia-Herzegovina this Sunday, senior party official Zeljko Komsic said on Friday.

Komsic, who is in charge of the committee, said the committee was set up at the request of Croatia's SDP and its leader Ivica Racan due to suspicion of fraud at some polling stations in Bosnia during the January 2 vote. He added that focus would be placed on voting places in Capljina and Mostar due to indications that major irregularities had occurred there.

Komsic said the establishment of the committee did not represent interference in another country's elections but solidarity with the Croatian SDP.

The presidency of Bosnia's Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ BiH) party held a meeting on Croatia's presidential run-off behind closed doors and called on its members to vote for HDZ candidate Jadranka Kosor, according to an official statement.

The press asked party spokesman Pero Pavlovic to comment on accusations by GONG, the Croatian election monitoring NGO, that numerous irregularities had occurred during the voting in Bosnia. He said the question should be addressed to Croatia's State Election Commission (DIP) and that it was all part of Stjepan Mesic's campaign.

Pavlovic also said his party had not appointed members of voter committees. DIP yesterday replaced members of voter committees who were from the HDZ BiH.
