ZAGREB, Jan 19 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said during question time in parliament on Wednesday that the adoption of bylaws, mostly rule books, was running late because those bylaws needed to be adjusted to EU standards.

"It is true that there are backlogs in some resources, but I guarantee that all ministers will adopt bylaws within the set deadline. The adoption is late because ministers had to see whether those bylaws are adjusted to EU legal standards which took time," Sanader said replaying to Antun Kapraljevic of the Croatian People's Party (HNS).

He reiterated that the government most vehemently condemned the act of vandalism committed on the statute of Josip Broz Tito in Kumrovec and stressed that anti-fascism was in Croatia's foundations. He also called on politicians to stop dealing with the past and turn to the future.

Sanader said the government had launched an initiative aimed at amending the Penal Code or adopting a new one which would ban the glorification of all totalitarian regimes.
