ZAGREB, Jan 18 (Hina) - Croatian Interior Minister Marijan Mlinaric said on Tuesday that the Interior Ministry was doing its best to find the runaway general Ante Gotovina, and was checking all information and every trace which may lead to discovering the whereabouts of this general, who is wanted by the UN war crimes tribunal.

Asked about the Gotovina case by a German reporter who was today in Zagreb covering the delivery of a German donation consisting of 12 off-road vehicles to the Croatian ministry, Mlinaric said that according to the information available to his ministry "Gotovina is outside Croatia".

"We have contacted the police forces of all friendly countries to help us in the search for Gotovina," the minister added.

Gotovina has been on the run since July 2001 when the Hague-based war crimes tribunal unsealed his indictment.

On Tuesday, the Croatian police were given 12 off-road vehicles which will be used for patrolling the state border. Each vehicle is worth some 60,000 euros.

The German donation is part of a protocol on the provision of assistance in the training and equipment of the Croatian police.

The contract on the matter was signed by Minister Mlinaric and the German Ambassador to Zagreb, Juergen A.R. Staks.
