Hailed by warm applause of her party colleagues in her election team, Kosor thanked Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, the HDZ leader, for what she said had been his courage and strength to nominate a woman a presidential candidate of "the greatest and historic party in Croatia".
Kosor congratulated incumbent Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on winning the second term in office.
Commenting on the election campaign, she said she managed to maintain a very high level of dialogue and did not discredit any of the candidates.
Kosor said that her refusal of what she called dialogue of discrediting was her success.
Kosor said she was also proud of having been the candidate of one political party while her rival Mesic was supported by 10.
"During the campaign I did not say any ugly word nor did I insult him or label him with nicknames from the street, which he used for me. I fought with the strength of arguments, requesting the same of him," Kosor said.
She added that she would return to the government in which she holds the office of Deputy Prime Minister and War Veterans' and Family Affairs Minister.
"As a politician I can still do much, because I have the strength and the will for it," Kosor said.
