ZAGREB, Jan 17 (Hina) - According to the first preliminary andincomplete results which the State Election Commission (DIP) releasedimmediately after midnight Sunday, incumbent Croatian PresidentStjepan Mesic won the second round of
the presidential elections on 16January.
ZAGREB, Jan 17 (Hina) - According to the first preliminary and
incomplete results which the State Election Commission (DIP) released
immediately after midnight Sunday, incumbent Croatian President Stjepan Mesic
won the second round of the presidential elections on 16 January.Mesic, supported by eight opposition parties, won about 66 percent of
votes, namely 1,452,940 ballots and his rival, Jadranka Kosor of the ruling
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) about 34 percent (748,400 ballots).
The DIP said that 51.12 percent of a total of 4,375,032 eligible voters
went to the polls in the country and abroad to elect the Croatian president.
There were 1.59 percent of invalid ballots.
Until 23:30 hrs Sunday, DIP processed ballots from 99.40 percent of all
polling stations.
