The presidential candidate of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Jadranka Kosor, has received the biggest support from the Bosnian HDZ. Calling on Croatian citizens residing in Bosnia to vote for Kosor, Bosnian HDZ leader Barisa Colak said Kosor would make a better president than Mesic.
The founder of Bosnia's Croatian Democratic Christians, Petar Milic, said his party supported Kosor because of her democratic Christian orientation.
Bosnian Croat centre-left parties, the strongest of which is the New Croatian Initiative (NHI), have called on Croatians living in Bosnia to support Mesic.
"Mesic confirms that he will use his presidential authority to help complete the return of Croats to northern and central Bosnia and make their return tenable," the NHI said in a press release.
The NHI underlined that Mesic, "with his principled attitude towards Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croats as one of its three constituent peoples, as well as with his policy of opening to the world, took Croatia out of total isolation and brought it to the door of the European Union in a very short time".
The leader of Bosnia's Croatian Peasant Party, Marko Tadic, said "Mesic's first term in office has been outstanding, bringing Croatia closer to European and Euro-Atlantic integration".
