ZAGREB, Jan 5 (Hina) - The leading Croatian Catholic weekly 'Glas Koncila' has accused electronic media of flagrantly violating laws during the first round of presidential elections, prejudging the outcome of elections and making tendentious comments on election results.

The editorial in the latest issue of the weekly, headlined "Scandalous Violation of Laws", reads that the public television "has once again deluded the Croatian public announcing projections of an agency with which it cooperates, and which it manipulates, saying that the presidential elections were finished in the first round".

The weekly's editor-in-chief, Ivan Miklenic, claims that Sunday evening's broadcast on national television showed that the purpose of the opinion polls, which he called "ostensible surveys", was "to impute, lobby, and delude the audience".

Commenting on the turnout of 51 percent, the weekly said it was a very clear message to all Croatian politicians, regardless of their political orientation.

The fact that elections were conducted in an atmosphere of democratic tolerance was interpreted by the weekly as the confirmation of the civilised and democratic behaviour and civic maturity of Croatian citizens.
