Racan said in a public statement that pressure and obstruction of the rule of law, coming from the some judicial bodies, the Croatian Democratic Union and a third party were damaging Croatia's development and its position in Europe. This has been going on for too long and it is also obvious in the Glavas case. All this only shows how much more is to be done when in comes to the rule of law, Racan said in the statement.
President Stjepan Mesic on Monday issued a press release on the case of independent member of parliament Branimir Glavas, saying that any further politicising of the case could have permanent negative repercussions on Croatia and its European perspective, that getting around the law must stop and that institutions must do their job independently, without any meddling from outside.
