"A whole series of accounts was opened before and during the (Croatian Homeland) war, but there is no excuse for opening accounts after the war", Mesic said, adding that institutions should investigate where the money sent to Croatia from the diaspora ended up.
Papadopoulos said his country had an open banking system, and that if there were suspicions regarding illegal accounts, Croatian authorities should contact Cyprus's judiciary.
We have an outstanding, independent judiciary, but so far we have not received any official request regarding this kind of assistance, the Cypriot president told reporters in Zagreb.
A way must be found to trace those accounts and transfers made from them, the Croatian president reiterated.
He said a task force had already been set up, adding that the body included experts from the finance ministry, the police and the State Prosecutor's Office.
We will ask all those who have information about secret accounts opened in Croatia and abroad to come forward, Mesic said.
