The present level of cooperation is not satisfactory, Del Ponte said after meeting High Representative Christian Schwarz-Schilling behind closed doors, a statement from the Office of the High Representative (OHR) said.
The OHR quoted Del Ponte as saying that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska must assume a more active role in tracking down war criminals who are still at large, as well as those who are helping them evade justice.
Schwarz-Schilling supported Del Ponte's position and confirmed his readiness to use his powers to ensure full cooperation with the ICTY.
The two officials also discussed specific measures to be taken to ensure cooperation with the tribunal and concluded that Bosnia's admission to NATO's Partnership for Peace program posed an additional obligation, to bring to justice the remaining fugitives, notably Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic.
During her visit to Sarajevo, Del Ponte also met behind closed doors members of Bosnia's collective state presidency.
