Elections are over and now is the moment for Bosnian politicians to focus on significant issues regarding EU and NATO membership, Hoon told the press on Tuesday in Sarajevo, which he visited as part of a regional tour.
Recalling that Bosnia opened negotiations on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU more than a year ago, Hoon said progress had been made in meeting numerous technical criteria, but that it was now necessary to meet political ones. He added this referred to police reorganisation and constitutional reforms.
The March package of constitutional amendments has to be adopted as soon as possible to provide a basis for the additional negotiations that will follow, he said.
Commenting on Bosnia's prospects of joining NATO, Hoon said the British government felt that would be possible when full cooperation was achieved with the Hague war crimes tribunal, including the arrest of those indicted who are still at large.
