KNIN, Nov 23 (Hina) - The deputy mayor of Knin and head of the
coordinating body of Serb minority councils in Sibenik-Knin county, Dragan
Jerkovic, said on Thursday that Knin was a step ahead of other towns in Croatia
in implementing the constitutional law on minorities. Speaking at a
round-table discussion, Jerkovic said that Knin had adjusted its statute to
the law, making it possible for Serb representatives to participate in
government, adding that the town authorities had provided premises for the Serb
Minority Council. He underlined that the issue of proportionate employment of
Serbs was yet to be dealt with.
The discussion, organised by the Organisation for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), also focused on minorities' access to local and
regional radio and television networks.
