The congress is a coordinating body of Ukrainian associations in Europe founded to improve the position of the Ukrainian national minority and protect the minority's rights and interests.
The annual assembly, attended by some 60 people from 40 organisations from 32 countries, will focus on the issue of education of teachers concerning the attempts to preserve and spread the use of Ukrainian.
The delegation informed Mesic of their activities, stressed they were aimed at assisting Ukraine on its path to Euro-Atlantic associations and creating a positive image of the country in Europe, the statement said.
The Ukrainians thanked Mesic on his support to national minorities in Croatia, stressing that Croatia was an example of a country which protects the rights of minorities, following European standards, the statement said.
