PRISTINA, Nov 22 (Hina) - The spokesman for the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) said in Pristina on Wednesday that the mission's numerous powers would be transferred to Kosovo's institutions after the province's status was defined and that the process of transfer of authority was expected to last from three to six months.

UNMIK spokesman Neeraj Singh said that the question of which powers would be transferred to which institutions would be solved during the process of definition of Kosovo's status.

It was previously announced that once the province's status had been defined, an EU mission would be sent to Kosovo, but its powers have not been determined yet.

The UNMIK and Kosovo's government have started planning the process of transfer of authority. The Kosovo government today agreed on an administrative structure for the process.

The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission and the Kosovo Force (KFOR) confirmed today that they would remain in Kosovo after its status was defined.

KFOR spokesman Rainhard Zengen said that NATO would keep the same number of forces in Kosovo at least six months after its status was defined.

According to figures released today by UNMIK police, in 2001 there were 3,300 UN police officers from more than 50 countries in Kosovo. Currently, there are 1,391 police officers from 44 countries.
