The main goals of this document are the elimination of discrimination against women and the establishment of real gender equality through the implementation of a policy of equal opportunities, Helena Stimac-Radin, head of the Office for Gender Equality, said presenting the document that was recently adopted by the parliament.
Stimac-Radin said that the document contained a number of binding measures for the promotion of gender equality until 2010 and an in-depth analysis of the position of women in Croatia, which indicates that women are being discriminated against.
Discrimination against women is evidenced by their under-representation in political decision-making processes and their unfavourable position in the labour market.
The presentation of the national gender equality policy was attended by parliamentary deputies, government officials and local officials in charge of gender equality, NGOs, the children's ombudswoman and the ombudswoman for gender equality.
