ZAGREB, Oct 26 (Hina) - The Chairman of the Croatian Parliament's Home Policy and National Security Committee, Ivan Jarnjak, has received the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, General Raymond Henault, who is on a working visit to Croatia, the Parliament's Public Relations Office said in a press release on Thursday.

The two officials talked about a recent meeting between Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and US President George W. Bush, at which Croatia received a positive signal regarding its aspirations to membership of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

Jarnjak informed his guest about the scope of work of the Home Policy and National Security Committee and the involvement of Croatian troops in international peace missions, particularly in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.

Also discussed were the reforms Croatia was implementing as part of the reorganisation of its armed forces and their adjustment to NATO standards. The two officials agreed that the pace and the quality of the reforms were very good, with Henault pledging further support in this segment.

Henault expressed hope that the forthcoming NATO summit in Riga, Latvia, would send an encouraging message to Croatia regarding its efforts to join the alliance.

Croatia has been recognised as a leading factor of development and security in the region, Henault said.

Jarnjak reaffirmed Croatia's strong commitment to the active policy of ensuring long-term stability in the region.
