The HND called for inviting new applications for four new members of Hina's Governing Council, so that along with the already nominated representative of agency employees, a new, legitimate and lawful council could be elected.
The association urged the government and the parliament to start cooperating with the HND and other professional associations in order to amend the Media and Electronic Media Act and proposed that the section of the act referring to the election of the public media's governing bodies be amended to eliminate any influence by the authorities on the nomination, election and appointment of their members.
The HND urged giving the status of public media to Croatian Radio Television, Hina, Vjesnik daily and local media, which are now formally owned by municipalities, towns or counties.
Local self-government units should not be in the ownership structure of the media, which are currently used as a means of political pressure, read the conclusions.
The HND insisted on the signing of a branch collective agreement for the media sector.
The conference adopted a proposal for the establishment of a national media council and called on the government to reduce VAT to five percent for the print media which have collective agreements and editorial statutes.
The conference also informed the public that the European Union of Journalists has entrusted the HND with organising its next annual conference in April 2007.
