HDZ vice president Jadranka Kosor told a news conference after the meeting that the government's policy towards war veterans and the Homeland War was supported. The meeting also focused on the rights of war veterans and the Croatian war veterans' fund, she said, adding that the solving of the status of members of Croatian Defence Council and members of their families and other current issues that veterans were faced with were also discussed.
Kosor said the veterans' council would be founded next week in agreement with the Coordinating Body of War Veterans' Associations
Asked if the party changed its position concerning the decision of the Croatian President and Commander in Chief, Stjepan Mesic, from 2000 to retire politically active Croatian generals, HDZ secretary general Ivan Jarnjak said that the generals have been summoned for talks because of their contribution to the Homeland War.
General Pavao Miljavac said Sanader informed them of the guidelines of Croatia's home and foreign policies, adding that the generals supported them.
General Kresimir Cosic, who is also member of the Croatian Parliament, said the talks also focused on the country's strategy for joining NATO and that the strategy was supported.
