Prime ministers of Montenegro and Kosovo hold talks in Podgorica

PODGORICA, Nov 3 (Hina) - The head of Kosovo's interim government, Agim Qeku, said in Podgorica on Friday that Kosovo would very soon become independent, adding that this was the best and only feasible solution for Kosovo and the entire region.

The Kosovo prime minister, who arrived in Podgorica at the invitation of his Montenegrin counterpart Milo Djukanovic, told a news conference in the Montenegrin capital that the independence of Kosovo would be the best solution for Kosovars and the UN-administered territory and that Kosovo would guarantee all rights to ethnic minorities with the international community supervising its independence.

Djukanovic told reporters that Montenegro would accept any solution on which Serbia, Kosovo and the international community agree.

In response to some criticism from the Montenegrin opposition and a part of the Serbian public that took exception to him for having invited Qeku to visit Podgorica, Djukanovic said those objections were xenophobic and autistic, adding that it was in the interest of Montenegro to promote cooperation with neighbours and that Qeku's visit was to this end.

The pro-Serbian bloc in Montenegro has accused Djukanovic of stabbing Serbia in the back by inviting the Kosovo official to visit Podgorica.

They also object that Qeku is suspected of having committed war crimes.

During their stay in Podgorica, Qeku and representatives of the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) held talks with Montenegrin Foreign Minister Miodrag Vlahovic and other local officials.

Qeku was also due to meet leaders of local Montenegrin Albanian paries in the coastal town of Ulcinj.
