PRISTINA, Oct 20 (Hina) - Members of the NATO Military Committee said after visiting Kosovo on Friday they supported settling the issue of the province's status by the end of the year and that they would not tolerate any violence in Kosovo.

Committee deputy chairman General Thomas Baptista told the press at Pristina airport that NATO respected the international community's positions on the settlement of Kosovo's status.

He said NATO wished that a solution be found by the end of 2006 in line with the Contact Group's deadlines.

The commander of the NATO-led Kosovo Force, General Roland Kather, said KFOR would not tolerate any violence in Kosovo and that it would preserve a peaceful and safe environment.

The NATO Military Committee delegation also held talks with the UN civil administrator in the province, Joachim Ruecker, and toured all the major KFOR bases.
