The statement, sent to Hina on Wednesday, read that Canadian Minister of National Defence Gordon O'Connor and Roncevic discussed Canadian-Croatian military relations, participation in the NATO-led mission in Afghanistan and Croatia's membership of NATO.
O'Connor said he was satisfied that Croatia recognised the importance of successful completion of the NATO mission in Afghanistan and that Canada acknowledged its commitment to defending freedom and democracy in the world.
Roncevic said that Croatia and Canada had been cooperating for years in various operations and that Croatia wanted to strengthen those relations.
Croatia hopes to profit from those relations and play a bigger role on the international scene and become a full NATO member, Roncevic said.
Croatian troops have been participating in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) since 2003, when they were under the command of Canadian General Rick Hillier, who is now Canada's Chief of Defence Staff.
Roncevic also held talks with Hillier.
The Croatian contingent in Afghanistan is the second biggest contingent from a non-NATO country and it is expected to have 150 troops on different locations in Afghanistan by the end of the year.
Canada has deployed more than 2,000 troops in Afghanistan, mainly in the country's most problematic province of Kandahar.
