In a message issued by the Bishop's Ordinariate, Peric said that the Roman Catholic community distanced itself from the inflicting of damage on relations among people living in the area and on religious facilities, such as cemeteries, mosques and churches, which he said had recently occurred.
Although he did not explicitly say what this statement referred to, it is clear that he was referring to the recent desecration of a Catholic cemetery in a Mostar suburb and an attack from a rocket launcher on a mosque in another suburb.
Local police have been protecting for days now a 33-metre-high cross on Mount Hum overlooking Mostar after receiving reports that it could become a terrorist target.
