ZAGREB, Oct 23 (Hina) - The State Environment Protection Agency on
Monday presented results of the second stage of the EMERALD programme, which
has been carried out in Croatia since the start of this year thanks to
financial assistance of the Council of Europe and the European Environment
Agency. The two agencies have allocated 30,000 euros for this
purpose, and 45,000 kuna from the Croatian budgetary funds has also been
ensured.
For European Union member states, Emerald is identical to NATURA 2000
programmes. Candidate countries are bound to implement NATURA 2000 until the
day of their admission and inform the European Commission of the results of the
implementation. EMERALD is a preparatory stage and a direct contribution to
the implementation of NATURA 2000.
So far Croatia has been commended for the implementation of environment
protection programmes.
