By organising the conference Croatia is meeting part of its obligations taken over from OSCE member-countries which refer to the fight against discrimination, xenophobia, intolerance and racism.
More than 150 participants, including representatives of NGOs and officials of education and foreign ministries from countries in the region, will discuss teacher training and regional education strategies in the fight against prejudices, hatred and discrimination.
They will also discuss education about the Holocaust in schools and ways how international associations can help further promote mutual respect and understanding.
The conference was opened by OSCE official Pierre Chevalier, who called for promoting diversity and preventing violence in schools and among different cultural groups.
